Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota County has partnered with two local America’s Best Contacts & Eyeglasses locations to ensure young people receive the eye care health services they need so that they can thrive inside and outside of school.
A free vision screening event was held at four of our five Club locations include the Lee Wetherington, Roy McBean, Newtown Estates Park and Gene Matthews Boys & Girls Club. Hundreds of our Club members received free vision screenings, and a large percentage will receive a free follow-up eye exam and free pair of glasses, if needed.
“Health problems, such as vision issues, have been shown to make it difficult for young people to focus and learn,” said Bill Sadlo, President/CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota County. “Receiving preventive vision screenings helps ensure young people’s health.”
Research indicates that approximately 1 in every 4 youth in the United States needs glasses. However, within the Clubs where vision screenings have been implemented, nearly 1 in every 3 Club members that have been screened require glasses.
“When young people can see well, they can focus easily, have the ability to build strong relationships with others, and feel good about themselves,” said Sadlo. “All of these are important components of setting young people up to be successful both in school and in life. We are so grateful to these two incredible teams from America’s Best Contacts & Eyeglasses.”
