Organizers and designers from the Jewels on the Bay Designer Showhouse presented the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sarasota County with a $10,000 donation on September 28 from its 23rd annual event.
The event featured the creative work of 26 of the area’s top interior designers at two coastal-designed homes in Granada Park. This year, designers were tasked with incorporating adaptive reuse, sustainable design techniques and environmentally-friendly products in their vision. The homes, located at 1757 McKenzie Lane and 1775 Stapleton Street, were open for public tours from January 21 to February 18, 2018.
The proceeds will support the newly renovated space for teens inside of the Lee Wetherington Boys & Girls Club, called The Club. The Club gives youth ages 13 to 18 access to award-winning leadership and service programs, and helps them prepare for college and develop their employability skills through workforce development services and entrepreneurial training. The space also features a technology station with iPads, a smoothie cafe operated by teen Club members, a built-in performance stage with lighting and an audio/video system, TVs with gaming stations, a recording studio and a learning lab where teens can participate in high-quality programs, receive academic support or meet with mentors.
The 24th Annual Jewels on the Bay Designer Showhouse will take place January 20 to February 17, 2019. For more information about the event, visit designershowhousesarasota.com.
